Joseph Ellerbee, Ebony Racquet Club & Ebony Jr Team Tennis President
Joseph Ellerbee is a Senior Systems Engineer with EMC. EMC is a leading provider of storage hardware solutions that promote data recovery and improve cloud computing. Joseph is responsible for the planning, design, implementation, and testing their lab infrastructure. Prior to joining EMC, Joseph also work in senior and management level positions at several companies including, 14 yrs. At IBM and 6 years at Mechanics and Farmers Bank.
Among his significant accomplishments, Joseph also used his professional training and experience in business development. In 1988, Joseph designed and published The Minority Enterprise Yellow-Pages followed by The First Impressions Mailbox. He is very knowledgeable of business and project planning, marketing, and delivering solutions on time.
Deno John, Ebony Racquet Club Vice President
Deno John relocated to North Carolina from Brooklyn, New York approximately six years ago. She first became interested in tennis in high school. But, since her relocation to North Carolina, she has participated as a player, event coordinator, tournament coordinator and team captain. Deno has two children attending Clayton High School. One has an interest in becoming a Gynecologist, and the other has an interest in becoming a Mechanical Engineer. Deno is a graduate of St. Francis College and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. She has worked in a non-profit organization that provides job skills training and preparation for economically disadvantaged teens and young adults. Deno has also worked with Autistic Adults to help them transition from intermediate care facilities (ICFs) to a more independent living. Currently, she is working as a Teacher Assistant at the Johnston County Schools. Deno has always emphasized education in planning for the future. She has a strong interest in working with young people and helping them excel and reach their potential.
Chris Brown, Ebony Jr Team Tennis Vice President
Christopher Brown was born in Stanly County. His journey in tennis started at Albemarle Senior High where he played varsity tennis from 1990-1994. After high school he enlisted into the United States Marine Corps in February of 1995. His service in the Corps would be short lived. In May of 1996, he retired due to medical conditions that led him to two liver transplants. After the military, he enrolled at North Carolina Central University. There he played varsity tennis for 4 years and graduated in May of 2002 with a BA in History. For the next 8 years, he enjoyed working as a teacher for Durham Public Schools. Presently he is an at home dad; married with four sons. Life is great! We love life! I am focused and dedicated to bringing tennis to my community.
Mark Hamlin, Co-Treasurer
Queen E. Hargrove, Club AdvisorQueen E. Hargrove was born in Smithfield N.C. Her professional career included 30 years in the Manufacturing/Technical field upon her retirement. She is a pillar of her community and is well-known for her leadership abilities, volunteer work and her passion for empowering children to reach their fullest potential.
Mrs. Hargrove graduated from Forest Hill High School. She attended Johnson Technical Community College where she received her Certification in Office Machines and Business Technology. She also received her Continuous Education in Computer Science at Durham Technical Community College. Her background is in Manufacturing where she gained professional experience as an Assembly Specialist, Department Lead, Manufacturing Technician, Communication Quality Team Leader and Department Personnel Leadership/Support for Management. Recession-driven restructuring within the Manufacturing field changed her career path and she attended Thomas Health Care Institute where she became a Certified Medical Assistant. Her Internship was completed at Johnston Memorial in Smithfield NC. Mrs. Hargrove works well with the youth of today. She possesses an uncanny ability to motivate with her firmly assertive, yet equally compassionate leadership style. She thoroughly believes that it is the responsibility of the community to teach today?s youth to always focus on their highest horizon and to be strong, respectful and confident while preparing them to emerge triumphant through life's adversities. Achievement today is tomorrow's future.
LaTonya Hargrove Boykin, Secretary
Latonya Hargrove works as the Executive Assistant to the Regional VP of the nation's largest behavioral health and wellness company. Her 9 years of experience there has raised her awareness of the necessity to promote healthy thoughts, feelings and behaviors coupled with improving physical health to help people balance the mental and physical aspects of life and to live their lives to the fullest potential. Latonya was an Ebony kid herself with avid tennis players as parents and knows first hand how the Ebony Racquet Club can produce healthy kids and strengthen family unity. As an adult, she went on to earn her Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration at East Carolina University. There she had an extraordinary athletic career in Women's Basketball and Volleyball. She went on to play professional basketball in Segovia, Spain and Kaiserslautern, Germany. In 2005, Latonya was inducted into the East Carolina University Sports Hall of Fame. Latonya is also CEO of <Hargrove Imaging Consultants>, providing business owners with solutions to refine their company's image by analyzing their target markets; improving business procedures; revamping sales strategies, web sites and logos; and producing professional grade commercials and print ads to aggressively increase sales revenue.
